Substitutions and Additions
Orange Jello: This fluffy salad recipe would be tasty with a variety of different flavors of Jello. Strawberry jello would make for a strawberries-and-cream style salad. Peach jello, for a peaches ‘n cream flavor, would also be super yummy.
Mandarin Oranges: If you choose to change up the jello flavor in this easy recipe, I would also recommend changing the fruit. For example, if you go with strawberry jello try adding sliced strawberries in place of the mandarin oranges.
How to Make This Orange Fluff Recipe
STEP ONE: In a large bowl combine orange jello mix and boiling hot water. Use a whisk to stir until all jello is dissolved and then add in the cold water. Use a rubber spatula to scrape around the sides of the bowl. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes.
STEP TWO: Remove from the refrigerator and whisk in dry instant vanilla pudding mix. Use the rubber spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl again to ensure all jello and pudding are dissolved. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place back in the refrigerator for another 15 to 20 minutes.
PRO TIP: Make sure the mandarin oranges are well-drained before adding them to the fluff mixture.
STEP THREE: Remove the bowl from the refrigerator and gently fold in mandarin oranges, cool whip, and marshmallows. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place back in the refrigerator for at least 1hour, or until ready to serve.
PRO TIP: For best results, make sure you give your salad at least 1 hour of chilling time. It allows all of the yummy flavors to blend together.
How to Serve
This yummy fruit salad is a delightful choice to take to a picnic, family gathering, or special occasion. Light and fluffy, serve orange fluff as a scrumptious side dish or as a tasty dessert. Enjoy a serving with a refreshing glass of raspberry iced tea on the side.
Storage
IN THE FRIDGE: You can most definitely make orange fluff jello salad ahead of time.
In fact, I recommend making it the night before you plan to serve it. That way it can sit in the refrigerator and the flavors can blend together. It also allows the marshmallows to soften up a bit.
Be sure to store your salad in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. It will stay good in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.
IN THE FREEZER: You can freeze this Orange jello salad recipe and it will keep for about 3 months.
Be aware that the texture of the marshmallows won’t be the same once they’ve thawed out. Since this is such a simple recipe to make, it’s best to make it fresh.
Orange Fluff salad is a refreshingly sweet and luscious dessert, and also one of the easiest desserts to make with just a handful of simple ingredients. Also called orange creamsicle fluff or orange jello fluff, this easy dessert fruit salad tastes just like an orange creamsicle. Filled with sweet, classic flavors, this retro recipe is always a crowd favorite.
