Peanut Butter Fudge Layer

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1½ cups creamy peanut butter, NOT the natural no-stir variety
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3½ cups powdered sugar, sifted

Chocolate Layer

  • 1¾ cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1½ tablespoons salted sweet cream butter, softened
  • ⅔ cup sweetened condensed milk

Substitutions and Additions

PEANUT BUTTER: You can use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy in this easy fudge. 

CHOCOLATE CHIPS: Dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips can be used instead of milk chocolate chips for this homemade fudge. 

How to Make Buckeye Fudge

For the Peanut Butter Fudge Layer

STEP ONE: Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang for easy removal from the pan. Set it aside.

PRO TIP: Lining the pan with overhanging parchment paper will make lifting the fudge out of the pan to slice much easier.

STEP TWO: In a medium-sized, microwave-safe mixing bowl, add the butter and peanut butter. Heat in the microwave for 60 seconds. Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave. Add the vanilla extract and stir until well combined.

STEP THREE: Slowly add the sifted powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon until all the powdered sugar is completely incorporated and there are no streaks or lumps of powdered sugar remaining.

STEP FOUR: Pour the peanut butter fudge mixture into the prepared pan and, using a spatula, smooth it out into an even layer.

STEP FIVE: Set it aside while you prepare the chocolate layer.

Chocolate Layer

STEP SIX: Using a medium-sized heat-safe bowl, add the chocolate chips, butter, and sweetened condensed milk.

STEP SEVEN: Heat in the microwave for 45 seconds. Stir, and continue heating in 15-second intervals and stirring until the mixture is smooth.

STEP EIGHT: Using a silicone or offset spatula, evenly spread the chocolate over the peanut butter fudge layer.

PRO TIP: To help cut the fudge after chilling, score a grid on the top of the fudge when it is barely set but still warm.

STEP NINE: Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.

STEP TEN: Grab the overhanging parchment and remove the fudge from the pan.

STEP ELEVEN: Slice the fudge into 1-inch x 1-inch squares.

PRO TIP: When slicing the chocolate peanut butter fudge, you can dip the knife in warm water after each cut. Carefully wipe the knife before slicing.
