Crockpot applesauce is a warm and cozy treat that is super easy to make with just five basic ingredients. Making homemade crockpot applesauce is the perfect way to enjoy delicious apples all season long. Once you see how easy this delicious crockpot applesauce recipe is to make, you’ll love making your own fruity applesauce.

Scrumptious to eat on its own, applesauce is also a yummy ingredient in other baked treats! Use applesauce to make Applesauce Cookies, Applesauce Cake, and Apple Donuts.

Crockpot Applesauce Ingredients

You will need:

  • 3 pounds apples, approximately 6 to 7 large (any variety I used Gala and Granny Smith)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ cup water
  • sugar, optional to taste

Substitutions and Additions

LEMON JUICE: The lemon juice adds a little punch to the applesauce. It can be omitted for sweeter applesauce.

SUGAR: Granulated sugar can be added during cooking or stirred in after the applesauce is cooked so that you can sweeten it to your particular tastes.

APPLES: You can use any variety of apples you wish, including Golden Delicious, Royal Gala, and Granny Smith. Red Delicious or Golden Delicious don’t have as much flavor on their own, so it is best to mix them with another variety. If you are using a tart apple like Granny Smith apples, you could mix it with a sweeter apple such as Fuji apples or McIntosh apples to balance it out.

CRANBERRY: Add fresh or frozen cranberries to turn this easy recipe into cranberry applesauce.

How to Make Crockpot Applesauce

STEP ONE: Remove the cores (and peels, if desired) and cut apples into 1-inch pieces.

STEP TWO: Place apples in a crockpot. Add lemon juice, cinnamon sticks, and water.

PRO TIP: If you are thinking about putting in added sugar, we would recommend you wait until the applesauce has finished cooking first before deciding if it isn’t sweet enough.

STEP THREE: Cook on HIGH for 3 hours, stirring once or twice, if desired. (Stirring is not necessary).

PRO TIP: Don’t overcook your applesauce, or the apples will start to lose their flavor.

STEP FOUR: Use a potato masher or immersion blender to break down cooked apples into the desired texture for the applesauce. A blender will break down the peels quite a bit, but not fully. For a completely pureed applesauce, peel the apples before cooking.

PRO TIP: A blender or food processor will break down the peels quite a bit, but not entirely. For a smoother consistency, peel the apples before cooking.

How to Serve Crockpot Applesauce

From breakfast to an after-school snack to a simple dessert after dinner, this delicious applesauce can be served any time of day. Make it feel extra fancy with a pinch of ground cinnamon on top, or mix it up with a sprinkle of granola. Add even more fall atmosphere with a pumpkin spice latte on the side.

Storage

IN THE FRIDGE: Store this crockpot cinnamon applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
