Mint Hot Chocolate

Mint hot chocolate is just as delicious as traditional hot chocolate, but with a fun twist. Creamy mint hot chocolate is the perfect festive treat for a cold winter day.

Ingredients
  

  • cups whole milk
  • cups heavy cream
  • teaspoons peppermint extract
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cups white chocolate chips
  • 3 to 4 drops green food coloring
  • Canned whipped topping for garnish
  • ¼ cup mint chocolate candies crushed or finely chopped Andes mint, peppermint patties, or any other mint chocolate candies (optional garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Using a 4 to 5-quart heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, add the whole milk, heavy cream, peppermint extract, and vanilla. Heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the white chocolate chips and stir continuously until the chips have completely melted. Remove from the heat.
  • Stir in the green food coloring.
  • Pour into the glasses/mugs. Swirl generously with the canned whipped topping and sprinkle with the crushed mint chocolate candies. Serve while nice and warm.

Notes

You can make this drink a day in advance and store it, ungarnished, in the fridge until you are ready to serve.
The chocolate can settle at the bottom of the pot. To avoid burning your homemade hot cocoa, make sure to cook it over medium heat and stir continuously.
A pretty glass mug would show off the lovely minty color of this drink nicely.
