FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Neiman Marcus legend?

There are many versions of the Neiman Marcus cookie myth. It goes a little something like this: a woman was out to eat one night at the Neiman Marcus Cafe in Dallas. She ordered a cookie for dessert after dinner. She got the cookie and loved it so much that she asked her waiter if she could have the recipe for their signature chocolate chip cookie. The waiter said no, so she offered to pay for the recipe. He told her it would cost her “two-fifty,” and she agreed. When she got her credit card bill in the mail, she realized that he meant “two-fifty,” as in, $250. She couldn’t believe she’d been charged that much for a cookie recipe. So, as revenge, she shared the original recipe to make sure that everyone would have access to it.

Is the Neiman Marcus cookie recipe story a true story or an urban legend?

According to the Neiman Marcus website, the story is, in fact, not true, but it is certainly fun to believe that it could have happened, and there is now an amazing cookie recipe that takes the taste of chocolate chip cookies to the next level.

Is oatmeal flour the same as oat flour?

Oat flour is the same as oatmeal flour. To make your own, measure oatmeal into your food processor or blender and blend until it turns into flour. 1 cup of oats will yield about ¾ cup of oat flour.

Can I substitute all-purpose flour for the oatmeal flour?

You can use regular flour in place of the oat flour, but we wouldn’t recommend it since this is the secret ingredient that makes these cookies so amazing! If you do want to make the substitution, the ratio is 1 cup of regular white flour for 1⅓ cups of oat flour.
